6880 Betton Grange Finally Rides The Rails
A trip to the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway to film Britain's newest standard gauge steam locomotive in action; 6880 'Betton Grange'. Following a few false starts, the 81st member of the GWR Grange Class made its long awaited public debut during the GWSR's 'Cotswold Festival of Steam' event at the end of May. None of the original members of the class survived into preservation, with the last being withdrawn and scrapped in 1965, and so the 6880 Society was formed in 1998, with the intention to construct what would have been the next in line from a further batch of locomotives that had been planned, but later cancelled due to the advent of the Second World War.

I loved watching these when I was 8 or 7
Epic video! How did you get the border around your photo on the thumbnail?
This piece of music is evocative as a fitting theme tune for 6880 and the era of its BR livery:: ruclips.net/video/1S9lccq3vow/видео.htmlsi=7EV1IdNqCIQZKlVw
Your videos never fail to make me smile
Lovely
Both ends of the speed scale, Western Champion and a Hedge snail.
The very first time I was given the shovel, and on a brand new engine, and now captured by sheer coincidence by yourself good sir; many thanks for sharing!
What a charming garden
Quite an accomplishment, hats off to the builders. Lovely looking machine, sounds great and hopefully as free-steaming as her ancestors!
Splendid early summer scenery for a loco to run and for us to watch. Lovely video!
Excellent video, as always. Thanks for sharing.
Many thanks 👍
What a Treat! WELCOME TO THE WORLD "BETTON GRANGE" 6880 ! - May you Live A Long and Steamy Life!! Hats Off to the Builders ! - A very sleek looking Ten-Wheeler without a sand dome atop the boiler, wouldn't you say? A very beautiful Locomotive! Thank you for sharing this fine video STTW!
Indeed, a lot of hard work finally paid off! Thanks for watching 😄
Fantastic Shots you made.
Thanks 👍
@@SpeedToTheWest would you do GTW 7029 for me Please.
@@maxwellwalcher6420 sorry, but I don't take video requests.
The last video with those 2 tones are amazing
What did you make your watermark with in the top left hand corner?
Brilliant, considered filming. Well done!
Many thanks 😄
Super video of the Western.
Cheers 👍
Nice content ...though the fact you're yet another Chris is very peculiar ...I'm guessing you alter the spelling / is your legal name spelt with a 'k' ...I can talk, there's a conglomerate of Marks in British comedy and whilst I don't support Geebeebies News ...oh what I mean is I'm the runt of the litter but not awful.
Final pan shot was epic! How much zoom does your camera go too?
How did you manage to see it in multiple locations without falling behind?
Always have to comeback and watch this masterpiece of a video! Going here for the first time in 4 years today and I am very excited
Excellent captures of a memorable trip....I was in Pullman carriage C, having an amazing 2 days, having seen the original Z48 trip off from Plymouth North Road, in 1964, aged 14...thanks for adding to the experience!
Many thanks, Roger. Glad you enjoyed it 👍
My childhood video of a uk steam trains
Quite the sight.
Brillaint video!
Cheers 👍
Top footage there, always enjoy your videos
Thanks very much 😄
What a beautiful edited video. You captured the essence of this piece of engineering history perfectly, well done 👍 The sounds of this beauties coming towards you at great speed and the plumes of smoke coming from the funnel, a sight to behold. Breathing in the smell the burning coal in the smoke, as they whistle by. I understand we must move forward, but that era was so exciting to see and hear. I cannot deny that there was a lump in my throat and tear in my eyes seeing them stretching their legs again. Thank you so much everybody for your time and effort to relive those halcyon days.
I like to go whistle whistle it blows 😂😂
Blue peter i love you
AAHHH!..... Steam in the Springtime amidst the greenery & flowers..... a great showing!!
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it 😄
Brilliant, especially that final panned shot -wonderful! Well Done. The inclusion of the Lapwing was a nice touch too.
Thanks very much! Was quite happy to catch the Lapwing. Often hear them on old Peter Handford recordings, but I'd never knowingly managed to record one calling until now. Naturally, it had to be included 😄
Brilliant footage thanks for sharing this as I was unable to see this event..
Cheers, Philip 👍
Always a pleasure to watch your videos and always painful to watch a train in trouble. I have never before known of a videographer to pan the same locomotive twice with one camera
Many thanks, Will 😄
Great video as always Kris. What a noise up Hemerdon despite the issue with the dragging brakes. Kind regards, Jake.
Cheers, Jake 👍
A superb video. Adds a new dimension for me, as I was travelling on the train. It truly captures the spirit of the trip.
@@martindavies5824 thank you, Martin 😄
Kris, An epic video and thanks for making some space for me at Hemerdon. Regards, John
Cheers, John 😄 Anytime 👍
I swear, some of these are kicking up memories back when I was still watching Thomas the Tank Engine as a toddler!
I’m on that charter this Friday and Saturday!
NICE!! ;-)

Yes, beautifully filmed and an excellent record of Leander's visit.
Thanks very much. Glad you enjoyed it 👍
A really excellent set of shots. Your channel stands out because of the time and care taken to set the scene both visually and audibly. Please do keep it up 😊
Thank you! I'm glad you appreciate it 😄 I'll endeavour to do what I can 👍
Beautiful! Love the sound of birds contrasted with the mechanized repetition of the locomotive!
Thanks very much! Must admit, I got a giggle from the juxtaposition between your username and the loveliness of your comment 😂
Enchanting! 😊 👍
Thanks for watching 😄
What camera did you use to take this video and what editing software do you use. Great Video!
He gives his camera and microphone info in the description to each of his videos, this one included. As to the software, I agree, it would be interesting to know.
Software is over in the channel description 👀
Great video, many thanks for sharing. Superb loco, straight out the box from overhaul/repair and trusted solo, well done to all involved.
Thanks very much 😄 Agreed, it's a properly sorted piece of kit and a credit to everyone who helps keep it going 👌
Nice video great camera work as usual I am really looking forward to seeing your next video I hope you get a nice video next time also when is your next video going to be on RUclips bye for now Philip
Cheers, Philip. Don't really have much of a schedule, to be honest. So videos are very much as and when.
Great shots. That is a phenomenal performance on the climb out of Westbury. You don't often hear Clan Line working like that.
Clan line is so used to plottering about London not often she gets to stretch her legs like that hope one day she comes to York or passes through Doncaster or chesterfield would love to see her go past only ever seen her in video on here or in photos 😊😊😊
Many thanks. Agreed, the sound was just jaw dropping!
Absolutely beautiful Pullman cars. Wish they could have rented one of the observation cars for this.
How far can Fenchurch go before needing more water/coal?
Well when I visited she basically needed more water and coal each time before setting out from Bridgnorth, so the answer is not very far!
@@caley812studio I don't understand the tank engine concept. Just a small tender would seem to increase range/efficiency so much. But there must be a reason. 🤔
@terryboyer1342 Tank engines were (and still are) the ideal locomotives for many branch lines, as they were smaller, more economical, easier to maintain and meant that turntables could be dispensed with as they could simply run round their consist of coaches. So I think they very much have a purpose in history
Ever considered Panning ?
For gold? No, I can't say I ever have.
In all seriousness, though, panning is neither always an option, nor always necessary.
Great video!
Cheers!
